My iPod RULES now! Thanks Rockbox! And thanks @rikshaw for telling me about this awesome theme!

@killyourfm did you buy a used one and restore it yourself? I don’t want to spend the money on a custom one but the DAPs out there are hit or miss
@cpgsaw Yea, this is the 2nd one I purchased and modded. Unfortunately it's not my first one, which was the beloved "5.5gen" model with the superior Wolfson DAC. I lost that one to the Pacific Ocean during a little hiking accident...
@cpgsaw It was about $100 on ebay for the 64GB model. A new battery replacement is about $12, and you can get various (semi affordable) flash drive kits to install. Pretty easy on the iPod Classics to do it yourself.
@killyourfm thanks! I’ve been reluctant ever since i tried to put a new battery in my og iPod 3 and sliced the cable for the lock switch. I just returned an innioasis y1 that didn’t live up to expectations
@cpgsaw regarding the innioasis... I really love having a device that DOESN'T resemble my phone, and has satisfying physical, clicky buttons :)
@killyourfm that’s exactly what I’m trying to find as a diamond in the rough. It seems like tactile buttons but good UI is a hard combo especially if you’re trying to avoid Android. That’s why the iPod is such a good option even still
@cpgsaw *Nods* I hear you. That's what makes the iPod + Rockbox combo so appealing. Plus, I JUST realized you can still use stock iPod OS and use iTunes for syncing if you want to! Effortless to switch back and forth.
@killyourfm @cpgsaw ironically I think itunes is probably what moved me away from OSX and Apple products in general :-) I have a rsync script with an input file I list the folders to sync from my local library. It will then copy what is new and delete what isn't in the list. But I don't use playlists etc only folders and files named and organized by id3 tags using the old but good puddletag. Gray neck beard seems to be showing too much now I'll shut up :-)
