I went down a rabbit hole on fonts and dyslexia, courtesy the Trump administration. (Because I really like serif fonts, but don't want to impose difficulties on others.)
I found this very interesting study by Drs. Luz Rello and Ricardo Baeza-Yates:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/262320823_Good_fonts_for_dyslexia
and thence to this inspiring Tedx Talk:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1dRqpRi4cs&t=629s
Findings:
There are bigger fish to fry than fonts.
Fonts designed for dyslexia (e.g. OpenDyslexia) don't actually work well.
Courier is good.
Dr. Rello is amazing.
