environmental storytelling

@alice This is exactly why I disabled the the power button shutdown feature from the OS side.

There was a variant of XBox 360 that had capacitive power button. It would turn off or on from just a cat walking past it!

@apzpins she disabled it too, but there are also long presses which are handled by the motherboard directly...

@alice @apzpins This is pretty much exactly the story claiming to be why the "molly guard" (or in this case "Nova guard") was invented. A good number of cases actually have those over the reset button these days, but I don't know of any non-industrial ones that have one over the power button as well...

(There's also option Cursed: install a toggle switch on the side that breaks the circuit to the power button, so the button only works when the switch is on)

@becomethewaifu @alice This is why I'm thinking about designing a protector for my van seat warmers. The button is on the seat frame and it's very easy to trigger by just hopping in.
@apzpins @alice I know the feeling. My mother's car has both seat controls right next to each other, and I usually only find out my dad fat-fingered both of them while turning his on when it suddenly feels like my rear end is on fire...

@alice Ah, yes. In that case a physical protector is indeed needed.

Fortunately my whisker faces just sit on an Ethernet switch behind my screens. It's a nice toe beans warmer!
