So, “Order of the Sinking Star” by Thekla was just announced, which takes several small free games (two of which are mine) and gives them a major graphical upgrade and mashes up their rulesets. I haven’t been very involved but it’s a great concept and looks cool.
The original games at the core of Order of the Sinking Star are:
* The Heroes of Sokoban series: by Jonah Ostroff
* The Promesst series: by Sean Barrett
* Mirror Isles: by me
* Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes: by me
@draknek not my first thought, but included in there was "dang, they finally made the 'all sokobanlikes are one' game, except had better contact info than having tweeted at you a few times. And... a team willing to spend many years on actually making that thing. Maybe someday I'll stop worrying about how to fix DROD's controls and render my own cubes long enough to make a demo worth asking permission over.
@draknek I was taken aback when one of the trailer blurbs was just... the name of a different game that I've already played. Then again, I remember giving you a slight side-eye after cosmic express's demo, having played Happy Train, but... I think that hasn't been the point for a long time. All the time, there are new sudokus, new DROD holds, we find large enough integer grids to build new really complex clockwork; this is all isomorphic to graph theory somehow, we can ask new questions in it.
@draknek Excuse me, I'm not that familiar with these particular games so I think I'm missing context, but what do you mean by "at the core"? Do you mean that it appears that the exact rules of these games were carried over to respective areas? Or are you saying that the authors of these original games were involved somehow (yourself included?)?
@draknek Thanks for writing this thread on such an uneasy matter. I’ll buy the game but appreciate how tricky / puzzley the situation is since it involves many people.
@draknek Thanks for the thread. This is not clear for me but did Thekla asked for permission to use all these games ?
