@KopfKrieg actually the technique of holding your sword by the blade and hitting your opponent with the handle is historically very well documented. It's called a Mordschlag/Mordhau and was used especially against heavily armoured combatants. Blades aren't really effective against armour but using the cross guard as a sort of warpick can leave some nasty dents.
