@daringfireball “Dyslexics need typefaces like OpenDyslexic” – This is very much an unproven claim by the designers of those special fonts. Research suggests that those fonts don't work and even can be detrimental to struggling children: https://www.edutopia.org/article/do-dyslexia-fonts-actually-work
Do Dyslexia Fonts Actually Work?

Specialized fonts for students with dyslexia are gaining in popularity. But they’re based on a key misconception, experts warn.

@jenskutilek Now that you mention it, I think I recall reading about these fonts being pseudoscience a few years ago. Thanks for the note and link -- will probably post on DF.

@gruber @jenskutilek Thank you for this! As a dyslexic, I’ve often wondered why when using these fonts, my comprehension dropped even more. Honestly, the best advice I ever got was to use sans serifs when reading, and the sans that comes with Kobo is VERY good for this.
@kencrossland @jenskutilek I suspect these fonts just slow everyone down, regardless of their abilities. Some people might need to be slowed down! But it was really interesting to me reading this research, to learn that dyslexia is not a visual problem.
@gruber Thank you! Spreading actual science about readability is much appreciated :)
