By shifting to 98% renewable energy "The total cost of electricity production [in Uruguay] decreased by roughly half ... About 50,000 new jobs were created in construction, engineering, and operations, roughly 3% of the labor force … Its economy has been growing at 6% to 8% annually, and its poverty rate has fallen from 30% to 8%."

Can we get a physics professor here in the US to step up, please?

@boelder @bodhipaksa And this is why Trump is firing all the scientists…
@bodhipaksa This could be Scotland, except we are stuck paying for England's addiction to generating electricity by burning gas.
@EricBranse Additionally, with the power production companies being foreign-owned, so that money is being siphoned out of the Scottish economy.
@bodhipaksa yep. We need more community owned wind farms like that on Yell, Shetland.
@EricBranse @bodhipaksa yet another good reason for Scottish independence!

Great story! Thanks so much for sharing. 😁Telling precursor: “One of the most important factors in Galain's success was that his strategy was backed by the entire Uruguayan political system, which meant it would not be disrupted by changing administration. With this buy-in, he was able to modify the country's entire energy system: infrastructure, regulations, and market design.” 🤔

I love it that he now runs a non-profit & hopes to share the success in another 50 countries. 😁

[Repeating my comment from another boosting of this great story - because I think it’s so importance that political stability assisted, allowed, enabled &/or was a major contributor to this infrastructure development.]

@bodhipaksa Yes but it doesn't own the libs
@knord Ah, yes. The joy of destroying the world to own the libs.

@bodhipaksa
