I perfected it; #serpico, the Semi-sentient RatPoison Interactive COmpanion

'watching y*utube in ratpoison with #links2, practical example'

https://nein.triapul.cz/technology/openbsd/ratpoison/watching_videos/

(It's semi sentient, because, if I say hi, it says hi back.)

The documentary is: "Dada and Surrealism: Europe After the Rain"

@screwtape

@prahou @screwtape I thought Ratpoison is some Youtube downloader but now I see it's a window manager.

What is meant with "This post is not sponsored by the #links2gang, but it should be." on the page?

@clock @screwtape This probably doesn't work anymore, use https://fuyt.lab8.cz instead to find videos
FUYT ...

@prahou @screwtape That's amazing in Links! It even has thumbnails!

Could you add a links "play in Links", which would contain a text file with the Youtube URL and for that text file return content type text/x-youtube-uri and one would put into Links into the associations an association of text/x-youtube-uri to run mpv --playlist=% ?

I just tested that mpv --playlist=file_with_URL.txt works.

I already asked Mikulas to make something like associations but for URL but he hasn't done it. I think this is an elegant workaround and Links users could easily search and watch Youtube videos.

#links2gang

@clock @screwtape potentially, but I can't promise anything.

@smoon

@prahou @screwtape @smoon Also please add after every "play in Links" button a "How?" button which leads to a detailed instructions how to portably (including for people who don't have root access, and those who run Links on Framebuffer instead of X11) setup Links, mpv, yt-dlp, including necessary symlink to youtube-dl, to do this, and a big warning that the playback first doesn't do anything and then starts due to Youtube arbitrary delays before downloads. Maybe rename the "play in Links" button to "play in Links after a delay" so that people are not confused and don't click up the system with 10 videos and then Youtube considers them a bot and blocks their downloads or the RAM overloads and PC trashes into swap (Linux is supposed to manage RAM but IMO it doesn't - the PC just becomes unusable when applications request more RAM than available, and one can't even kill the programs that are using it because even the terminal and terminal switching and X11 program switching stops working).

@clock @screwtape

by the way, did you ever consider using TAB to cycle through links (and images)? It would help mouse-less and arrow-less setups.

@prahou @screwtape I didn't consider it. I don't know whether Mikulas considered it. TAB is used to cycle between frames, see Links browser→Help→Keys (F1)→TAB
