Zelenskyy refuses to cede land to Russia as he rallies European support - Big Lemmowski

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/39940334 [https://lemmy.world/post/39940334] > Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffimed his firm refusal to cede any territory, resisting U.S. pressure for a painful compromise with Russia as he continued to rally European support for Ukraine. > > “Undoubtedly, Russia insists for us to give up territories. We, clearly, don’t want to give up anything. That’s what we are fighting for,” Zelenskyy said in a WhatsApp chat late Monday in which he answered reporters’ questions. > > “Do we consider ceding any territories? According to the law we don’t have such right. According to Ukraine’s law, our constitution, international law, and to be frank, we don’t have a moral right either.”

It’s a stupid news narrative. Nobody gives a f about that land. It’s about security guarantees. Ukraine needs that to exist and Russia doesn’t want Ukraine to exist so they are against that.

That should be the only narrative for any sane person and for all the news.

I wonder, if nobody cares, why are they willing to die to defend it?

Seriously, I could feel my braincells commiting suicide from reading your post.

It's one of the worst takes on the Ukrainian war I've read in a while.
It’s thinly veiled Russian apologia. So, yeah, complete bullshit.

nobody gives a fuck about that land except for the people who live on it, the people who live near it, and the people who have spent a generational fortune to occupy it and use it as a starting point for the next partition.

which all told is a great number of people.

not to mention the last set of security guarantees Ukraine received have turned out to be empty promises so, surprise surprise, they’re not willing to cede land for more empty promises

The land Putin has stolen contains rich coal reserves and a shitton of metallurgical industry. If you want to completely disregard the fact that people are actively dying to defend/reacquire it, consider the industrial and military importance of the region. The land represents energy security (don't get me wrong, fuck coal stop burning it) and raw materials to make more weaponry.
It also has land access and fresh water supply to Crimea, a huge amount of chernozem soil, and the homes of ten million people. There's heaps of valuable stuff there
please stop breathing. thank you.

Nobody gives a f about that land.

There’s a literal war happening over it?
