#QuollFishing—a quiz about Australian stuff—Sun 7 Dec 2025

I’ve made a decision to surrender the tag #QuollFishing and play a different game. While I appreciate the rules — and challenge — of fishing for wikipedia articles, i’ve also enjoyed the resulting conversations about australia, and would prefer to focus on generating more of that.
Hopefully, with a different style of clues there might be more interest…

From tomorrow, i will be offering questions only with the tag #SerenityInOz, in honour of Darryl Kerrigan, who liked to say “how’s the serenity”

Also, anyone is welcome to participate by generating their own questions — if you use the tag #SerenityInOz in the body of your toot, i will find you. A date would probably be helpful.

give yourself 1 bonus point if you know where Darryl Kerrigan is from

Today’s main challenge — What’s my name?

I am a novel by David Malouf, published in 1993

I won the inaugural International Dublin Literary Award and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and the Miles Franklin Award.

I am set in Queensland, in the mid 1800s

I explore themes of place, and belonging, from multiple points of view

@maudenificent I have no idea (which I find somewhat embarrassing) of the novel's name. I'm sure I'll slap my forehead when I see the answer. #QuollFishing #SerenityInOz

@gerg

i read about one work of fiction every ten years, and have no idea why i picked up this one. it is good, or i would have tossed it away after two pages.
