Trans rights are human rights.

Boost if you agree.

Block me if you disagree.

This bubbled up this morning because an article about the new HBO MAX Harry Potter series floated across my screen and got me seething.

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it here, but one of my sisters is trans, as is her partner. Lovely people.

And I’m not doing that “Every woman is somebody’s sister/daughter/wife” thing. My connection to her isn’t why this matters to me.

But it is why I take transphobia very, very personally.

@maxleibman
Yeah, trans rights are human rights regardless of whether you know & love any trans people personally.

But when you do have trans folks you love... Well, it makes you want to fight anybody who would hurt them.

I spoke out for trans rights when I didn't have any (out) trans friends, but I have several now, & it puts a fire inside me. I fight for them.

@artemis

Not always. I have to stay away from my family, cos they still hope (think) I made a mistake, and maybe one day I realise this and go back. I've not spoken to my mum, for a year and a half now. 21 years transitioned, and cos I mentioned my depression was ticking up again the other year, she was back with the "hopeful" question of did I think I'd made a mistake.

Fuck . That. Shit.

So no, just cos people know trans folk, doesn't mean they'll come out to bat for them.

@latelesley
I hope it did not feel like I was invalidating your experience. If it did, I apologize.

I am genuinely sorry that your loved ones are unwilling to accept you in your wholeness. That is such a heavy thing to carry for so long. 💜

I meant that love is a powerful force that gives people courage. Some people put their fears, wishes, & desires ahead of their love for someone. Doesn't mean that they don't love, but they are not acting in love when they do that.

@latelesley
You deserve love that is better than that. You don't just deserve to be accepted: you deserve to be FOUGHT FOR. You really do.

You are worthy of the kind of love that will not let up & I am so sorry that people in your life have not lived up to that.
