I've secured my father's IEEE lapel pins. This should allow me to infiltrate their ranks and free critical knowledge from their paywalled hoard.

(It will do no such thing, of course. I just think wearing these will be funny given my low opinion of the IEEE.)

Relatedly, I've found two of... this

Only US VP to resign under criminal charges. So the through-line to his support for the current administration becomes clear.

I'm now expecting a Henry Kissinger Commemorative Lickable Boot

@cliffle
I'll bite, what's wrong with IEEE?

@senesens as a person who learned formal computer science outside the university system, they were mostly an org that collected important papers, got them ranked well in search results, and then held the actual contents behind a paywall I couldn't afford.

Then later I learned that if I published in a journal they controlled, I would be given the "option" of paying *them* to be able to repost the paper.

Not consistent with my values.

@cliffle How would you rate the ACM with respect to the IEEE? I had a notion the IEEE was more practically useful, but that might be a "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" thought.

@jmeowmeow they sure do have different logos.

ACM went open access earlier, I think, but I sure as hell had to buy the open access rights for my papers back from them. For most of my career ACM DL was another paywalled hoard and I haven't forgotten.

@cliffle Well, I will very likely be in the SFBay again in 2026Q1, now that my calendar is my own for a bit.
@jmeowmeow happy to catch up!
@cliffle you can put them with your 2 quadrillion NaNs
