But I think a lot of folks forget that the whole brand is just the sanitized, commercialized version of a much older tradition:
In Northern European folklore, after the Yule meal is finished and the family is pleasantly full, there will be a knock at the door. Then the Scrubfather enters with his hogbristle brush to scour the souls of any children who've refused to help with after-dinner cleanup or other chores in the previous year.
