Back on my time fixation again

Another coincidence I just realized is that my very first SSD 14 years ago was a Mushkin Chronos 128GB drive. Mushkin seems to be an all but dead and forgotten brand that won't survive this current market if they even are still around. But the drive being a Chronos series one strikes me as obvious now. Chronos, the very Greek personification of time itself. I only got the drive for the cost at the time, but now it feels entirely aligned with my entanglement with the concept of time.

Pretty sure I used it for a build I did for a friend a long time ago because the oldest drive I keep now is the 240GB OCZ one before they were bought by Toshiba.
Oh! Maybe I was wrong and it was a 240GB Mushkin Chronos drive because I just found it in my brother's old PC he gave me a while back since it didn't work or something. I have no memory of giving him that drive but there's also no reason he would have gone out to find that brand when Samsung was so much more prevalent. Really just happy to have likely found my first SSD after about fifteen years :3
@sudaksis Haven't heard of OCZ either for a long time. I developed a slight distrust towards them, when one of their early drives had a habit of reverting to previous reboot's state.

@apzpins @sudaksis

Oh OCZ is its own brand before? Even though I follow SSD tech for a long while now, I thought they were always Toshiba.

@cadenwolfgang yeah, I think it was like 11 years ago now Toshiba bought them. They were still good under them, but I think they rebranded that division to Kioxia at some point in like 2018

@sudaksis

Wait oh they're supposed to be related? I still see OCZ stuff, while Kioxia is out, that I have no idea at all Toshiba is related now to both lol. Weird.

@cadenwolfgang Oh, so Kioxia is Toshiba's own brand of storage, so Toshiba buying OCZ meant that it was a separate product series

OCZ still exists technically but it's incredibly niche now

Is Ocz Even Worth Considering Now That Samsung Nvme Ssds Are Everywhere

@sudaksis Mushkin is about 4 miles down the road from me. They’re far from the elite brand they used to be, but they’re still around.

Though I agree, I don’t see how they survive this.
