End "SECURITY BY OBSCURITY".

SECURITY BY OBSCURITY is bunk. But the AUS 🇦🇺 govt thinks its a valid reason to keep source code secret, preventing audit, reuse, improvement. I am taking Services Australia to the Administrative Review Tribunal in a Freedom of Information review to challenge these arguments.

You can help fund this legal challenge. Every dollar helps! 🙏 https://www.pozible.com/project/mygov-app-source-code-foi-review-1/

@hackuador I think the OzGov should use and release a lot more open source code in general.
#MyGovAU #mygov

@M0les they should. The government even told itself so, through the Digital Transformation Agency Digital Services Standard 1.0, article 8: "Make source code open": https://architecture.digital.gov.au/digital-service-standard-v1-guides-and-tools-full-text

DSS v1.0 was applicable at the time of my FOI request. In 2024 it was replaced with v2 which no longer explicitly mentions making source code open. This change was the subject of a recent FOI request to the DTA: https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/digital_service_standard_removal. The released documents provide some (limited) insight into the decision. Probably more to be uncovered here.

@hackuador speaking of things that could be improved. Pozible is a bit of a shitshow. I hope the lack of validation of mandatory-but-unnecessary field is intentional (FFS don't tell them to fix it if not)

The obvious one is that ticking the "don't make my contribution public" box doesn't make the mandatory display fields optional.

@moz I used Pozible because it seems to be the only Australian platform... lessons were learned 😅 I tweaked some settings, maybe improved things. Thanks for your interest!

@hackuador I'm not saying don't use pozible, but one more annoying thing with any platform is making sure that it does what you want it to.

And admittedly I am the annoying user who always changes something just to see what happens :)

GiveNow only added the comment field on donations after I whined at them.

Good luck with the appeal!
