Is it cool that Linus Torvalds uses Fedora Linux? Yes!

But the really cool thing is to use the Linux distro that works best for you. :)

Having Linux get covered on LTT is such a big win for the open source community as more techies realize there is another way!

But it is pretty neat tho what Linus uses 😎

Building the PERFECT Linux PC with Linus Torvalds

@fedora I mean, ok, I get that IBM has given you the job to promote Fedora, buy can you at least acknowledge that Linus' behavior toward contributors is toxic?

I've personally discussed this with Linus and he refuses to change his behavior.

Why don't you use your influence as his distribution maker to improve the situation?

@bkuhn @fedora "Your influence as his distribution maker", i don't think it gives them any influence, and if it does, i don't think it's their place to do so.

If fedora would start to leverage their influence this way, whether I agree or not, I would just ban it from my list

@litchipi One wonders why @fedora is promoting a specific user in this way other than some level of credibility or influence peddling.

The project has a responsibility, if they are trying to ride on some credibility like that, to also take some responsibility for how that person treats FOSS contributors.

@bkuhn @fedora I would understand if you said "Stop using Torvalds to promote fedora, he's a dick to FOSS contributors"

But not "use your influence to make him stop"

Reasonable point, @litchipi! I did communicate my point in a pithy way that made it confusing.

I was trying say: @fedora is legitimizing Linus' bad behavior by promoting his use of their distribution without qualifying it with an accompanying criticism of that behavior.

&, @bshephar, I don't think Linus would listen on his own, but when mainstream Tech Press started covering Linus' behavior, his employer (LF) did some things to address it. Sadly they gave up immediately when news cycle ended.

@bkuhn @litchipi @fedora @bshephar Let's be clear here. It's not like they found out Trump was running Fedora and used his image to promote the distro. They're proud that the *creator of Linux* (who's still very much an overwatcher) is using their distro. For sure he's been abrasive and straight up douche before, good that he's been called out on that behavior, but it's really not that deep. If he was that horrible of a person as you make it sound, he would've been ditched long ago.
@reddpower @bkuhn @litchipi @fedora yeah, for sure. I think he can be respected for his technical contributions to the field without that being an endorsement of his behaviour in the field. His behaviour isn’t unique in the industry, I.T folks aren’t famous for their interpersonal skills.

@bkuhn @fedora so, you discussed this with Linus and you still believe he would give a single fuck about what Red Hat thinks?

A person of true optimism. I admire your positivity.

@fedora I've got to say... this has been the best LTT has done yet, at least for me.

Edit: it seems not only for me, it's sitting at near 3M views, which for him it's among the best he's done this year.

@fedora
am looking to convert my chromebook...
@fedora Fedora is what flawlessly worked on my Laptop since I bought it. I rarely face crash or freeze issues nowadays.

@fedora

The fact that Linus Torvalds uses Fedora Linux is known since 2008 at least...

@fedora
Having not finished the video, this is in line with what he‘s said. Torvalds, in his own words, is „lazy“ and relies on other people‘s work, if it works. And Fedora is just that: A reliable distro. But if you want to do weird stuff (like installing `javaws` for OpenJRE 8), you have to use another distro.
@fedora Are people who watch LTT really "techies"?
@ZS @fedora I watch it for entertainment. I really love CCC conventions and talks. But they require attention and critical thinking. LTT is entertaining background noise while doing something else.
@ZS @fedora Why does it matter? Linux isn't an exclusive club for tech nerds. If anything, there are far to few "normal" users.
@fedora he does know a bit about Linux. It’s a pretty strong endorsement. We need to send a patch to the Linux Makefile to add a super easy bootc target.
@fedora... "... what Linus uses" Real Linus or fake Linus?
