Okay, so, nearly a week now running MX Linux 25 (Xfce edition). As a longtime Debian fan and user, I am absolutely loving it. The latest version is based on Debian 13 and is completely compatible with the latest Debian release.

If you're a Debian fan (or even if you're not), you might want to give it a try.

@cmccullough and if you need/want new packages, Distrobox (cli) and BoxBuddy (gui) will get you there. It's not for security mind you, but it'll enable you to use dnf, pacman, even the AUR on *any* distro, but it's particularly nice for Debians; MxLinux is great, lots of good polish
@cmccullough Chad, I have found MX meets my needs for desktop and lots of different laptops. You are a very experienced user, me just an average user. MX Tools and Tweak make it easy to do the basic setup for a low tech user like me. The Snapshot and then Live USB Maker makes it trivial to move to a different machine and keep accounts and settings. Who needs windows or mac?

@cmccullough what's it do better than vanilla Debian?

(I'm not using either, curious about the differences)

@furicle @cmccullough there is an ISO packed with sysvinit vs systemd. That is enough for a large chunk of folks.
@cienmilojos @cmccullough Ah, non systemd.
Thanks for the info.
@furicle They have versions with systemd or sysvinit. I am currently using the systemd version. Also, they have some in-house developed tools that help with things. Nice to run a Debian-based system with the extra tooling.

@cienmilojos

@cmccullough I am using an old mx version.
Are you able to run appimages?

Me sadly not.

@Derek_DIY Ah, that's a good question. I will check once I get back home. I'll update you.
