It's called December because it's the tenth month of the metric calendar.

@_michaljan @the_etrain It was a enough to recently spend time in Japan where they _universally_, without exception, write the date in the proper format: `yyyy.mm.dd`. Aah, soothing.

@the_etrain The tenth month part is actually correct: in a calendar that used to have leap day the last day of the year. Hence September, October, November, December, January, February. Roman emperors stole a lot of the other months, (and stole days to make their months longer). Otherwise I imagine more month names would be numbers.
