Completely undemocratic and threatens to supercede even the UK's supreme court.
UK: Call Time on Corporate Courts
The UK has just been sued, via corporate courts, for halting a controversial coal mine. It follows the government saying in its trade strategy that it would continue inserting Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) clauses into trade deals, and pushing to include them in a new treaty with India. Now what we’ve long warned about has happened: a fossil fuel investor suing the UK over a climate policy. Meanwhile, UK corporations are using ISDS to block action to protect the environment and human rights around the world.
