Oh ffs. The web hosting I decided on (#Hetzner) claims that my "account information" has an increased level of risk, whatever that means, and requires photo identification. And after having been forced to use Chrome because they don't support Firefox, they refuse to accept my type of national ID card. 😑
I guess I have to find another web host then.

Trying to avoid having an ID card with biometrics, because I believe that that sort of treatment by the government should still be reserved for people suspected for serious crimes, is getting harder and harder as the all-seeing and all-knowing police state is growing bigger. Identification with banks is getting impossible without biometrics, and apparently getting a web host is getting harder as well.

Well ok. The verification process failed due to invalid document type and prevented me from continuing with the process. I could only abort. But now I got an email saying I'm verified anyway.
Props to #Hetzner for coming through (but please fix your apparently broken verification process)!

@macberg jfc, how does a web host of all places not "support" Firefox? How is it that there are so many working web devs with zero knowledge of the very fundamentals of web design/development?

@gordoooo_z To be fair it wasn't them, but the ID verification service they use. Still just as abysmal, but the anger should be directed at whatever they were called, I've already forgotten.

@macberg They have different links for the different services but nothing really important. Very safe and well known for their defense on digital rights. The storageshare (nextcloud) is an amazing service for 50€/year (1Tb) and for a wordpress It might be around 3€/month I'd say. They clean and efficient.

@macberg I've been using Hetzner for a bunch of things for a while now, and it looks like you can do Wordpress on their supercheap web hosting... Like I think their cheap option is on the order of 5 domains for 5 Euros/month.

(I have a private server, and that cheap hosting that I'm migrating a few non-wordpress static sites to)

@danlyke I haven't looked into the details yet but they have a tier for €2 / month. Basically one of everything, and very little RAM, so it might not work for WordPress but I'll try that tier out first. My website isn't really worth €5/month lol but if that's what it is that's what it is I guess.
