Aha! Removing a hose from a braided water supply line is like one of those "Chinese finger traps"! The harder you pull, the more stuck that inner line becomes. Duh! (finally removed the line from the supply line I was modifying by pushing from the other side, not pulling the braid). Also, don't believe the YouTube videos, I don't think you want to apply heat to those things (burning plastic = bad) #projects

@ai6yr

I see you went with the braid strainer, it works really well 👍

Tip: when cleaning, remove the braid from the tun and soak in hot soapy water. You will need to agitate the braid to remove grain residue

@Carl_Greywolf Thanks for the tip! I plan on doing the 5 gallon batch over the Christmas/New Year's break. I need to determine if I have enough beer bottles, however. And I plan on doing a second run on the same grains for a lower alcohol version, so really need 10 gallons worth of supplies, LOL. (unsure how that will turn out, but... I'm doing this for process reasons, only. I'm also more likely to drink the less alcoholic stuff, and give away the first run batch).

@ai6yr

Plastic (PET) fizzy drinks bottles can be used as long as they're well cleaned, sterilized, and kept in a dark place. Obviously use these ones first.

Not ideal, but worth remembering for that "oh! there's more!' moment while bottling

@Carl_Greywolf Gotcha, I have an entire container of those from a friend's "Mr. Beer" kit, so I can do that, too. I can wash and sterilize those as backup....

@ai6yr

Always worth having a few ready just in case... And a good excuse for trying the brew early 😂

@Carl_Greywolf 😂 I have some flip top bottles, and use them for that. Especially since I can't actually drink a whole bottle in one sitting... LOL. I still think it silly I am brewing beer when I really don't drink, but it's on my list of "stuff to learn".

@ai6yr

I am the same.... I have soooo many hobbies 😂
