Vaccines alone are not enough.

Study of #COVID19 vaccine effectiveness (VE) against hospitalization in adults over 60 in 2024/25:

“VE was 42% 14-59 days post-vaccination, 32% at 60-119 days, and 36% at 120-179 days, and no effect thereafter. “

Less than 50% effective in the first two months. No effect after 179 days. (I have seen studies suggesting vaccination may provide SOME protection against Long COVID.)

COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Against Hospitalization in Older Adults, VEBIS Hospital Network, Europe, September 2024-May 2025 - PubMed

We estimated COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE) against PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 hospitalization in patients ≥ 60 years with severe acute respiratory infection, using a multicenter, test-negative, case-control study across seven sites in six European countries between September 2024 and May 2025. That doesn't suggest vaccination isn't important. It still offers partial and fading protection against infection and hospitalization, and some studies find it lowers the risk of Long COVID. But, this study should tell us that vaccinations alone are not sufficient.

I'll keep wearing masks in public enclosed spaces...

@augieray

@augieray They really need to lower the age for twice yearly vaccinations to 60, or even 50. Until then, the CDC encourages me to lie to a pharmacist in order to get that extra yearly shot, so I will continue to do so.
@Wildflower01 I've had no questions or issues getting a twice-yearly shot thus far. I just schedule it and show up. Never been hassled yet. I hope that doesn't change.
@augieray I still wear a mask indoors if the person-density is high - I'm probably over-optimistic in thinking that many (or any significant number) of public spaces have improved air-handling or filtration...
