I really loved my Sonos speakers before Sonos completely messed up their software a couple of years ago. They still haven’t fixed it. And what’s beyond aggravating is that it’s inconsistent. Just when I think it’s working, next time I use it it just freezes up and refuses to play anything.

What do people use instead for multi-room setups with a line in?

@mikebroberts Roon unless your library is on Apple Music (not supported by Roon) then use Apple.
@adrianco I need at least Apple Music and a line in (to send my turntable in my study to my lounge). Plus ideally my local NAS library. In theory Sonos is perfect for this. If it worked.
@mikebroberts I also had Sonos a few years ago and happily no longer have to deal with its terrible software reliability. This adaptor might help? https://www.arylic.com/products/lp10-music-streamer
LP10 AirPlay 2 and Google Cast Music Streamer

@adrianco that’s interesting - thanks - I hadn’t considered trying to Airplay my turntable.

Ironically if I bought that today I’d end up setting up an Airplay group … of my Sonos speakers.

@mikebroberts I use AirPlay – you can probably find old Airport Expresses on eBay? Or there are newer 3rd party devices that support the protocol. The turntable might be tough, but if you can get that audio to a Mac I bet Rogue Amoeba has some combination of apps that will send that audio to the AirPlays (I use Airfoil daily but for playing audio on my Mac and an Airport).
@benish Hah, I haven’t thought about Rogue Amoeba in a long time. Also I used to have an Airplay Express but got rid of it since it was just sitting around for years. Alas.
