The Israel-Palestine peace process has always foundered because the West insists on taking Israel's side while pretending it's a rational, well-intentioned state actor and not a bunch of racist land-stealing sociopaths who need perpetual war to stay in power and out of jail. (The problem being this unspoken truth is why the US loves them so much.) Essentially, the Palestinians are never treated as having a legitimate grievance nor given a non-violent means to address it.
You might as well ask why the US was so unpopular in Afghanistan after killing thousands of their citizens and propping up a corrupt regime for so long.

When one side of a conflict has all the power and carte blanche to commit atrocities in defiance of the international community, the peace process is demonstrably a sham.

Every US administration has played at being the "deal maker" without acknowledging reality and then blamed the Palestinians exclusively when it inevitably falls through.

Any equitable peace will be seen as an unacceptable loss by Israel because it requires concessions they don't want to make. They're convinced they can just kill their way out of the problem while stalling the international community.
And yes, they're probably right as long as Zionism is favored over peace by the US and the West in general.
@gwynnion The scary thing is you could have replaced the word "Israel" in that toot with "Russia" and it would be just as accurate if the context were a different ongoing conflict

@statsguy @gwynnion

you could have replaced the word "israel" with "USA" and 'palestinians' with 'indigenous peoples of north america' and you would understand why the US will never acknowledge the right of palestinian people to even exist.

also - there is no '2-state' solution. israel - alone of all nations - regularly bombs its neighbors with impunity. there is no way in hell they would not continue to bomb, invade, and steal palestinian land, if palestine were a separate, independent nation.

one state, with equal protection for all people, of all religions (or no religions), and all ethnicities - from the river to the sea!
