Für Chiharu Koda sind Räume keine starren Hüllen, sondern lebendige Prozesse: Sie fließen, verdichten sich, lösen sich auf und entstehen neu. Bewegungen, Geschichte und Begegnungen formen sie. Was aber passiert, wenn Raum nicht statisch gedacht wird, sondern wie ein Fluss – geformt von äußeren Kräften und ständig im Wandel?
Während ihres zehnmonatigen Aufenthalts im studio hö beschrieb sie den Standort als „Delta“ – eine Flussgabelung, an der soziale und kulturelle Strömungen der Stadt zusammenfließen. Aus dieser Perspektive entstanden drei Projekte zum Thema Raum und Wasser.
Das abschließende Projekt Delta überträgt die Dynamik eines Flussdeltas auf den urbanen Kontext. Das gesamte Studio wird zur interaktiven Installation: Sensoren erfassen die Bewegungen der Besuchenden, während Module aus Holz, Biokunststoff aus dem Rhein, 3D-Druck und Keramik motorisch reagieren. Algorithmen verarbeiten die Daten in Echtzeit und schaffen so ein „urbanes Delta“ – einen vielschichtigen, sich ständig wandelnden Raum, der nicht nur Architektur sichtbar macht, sondern auch die Bewegungen, Begegnungen und Strömungen einer Stadt erfahrbar werden lässt.

For Chiharu Koda, spaces are not rigid shells but living processes: they flow, condense, dissolve, and emerge anew. Movements, history, and encounters shape them. But what happens when space is not thought of as static, but like a river – shaped by external forces and constantly changing?
During her ten-month residency at studio hö, she described the location as a “Delta” – a river fork where the social and cultural currents of the city converge. From this perspective, three projects on the theme of space and water were developed.
The final project, Delta, transfers the dynamics of a river delta to an urban context. The entire studio becomes an interactive installation: sensors track visitors’ movements, while modules made of wood, bioplastic from the Rhine, 3D-printed elements, and ceramics respond mechanically. Algorithms process the data in real time, creating an “urban delta” – a layered, constantly changing space that not only reveals architecture but also makes the movements, encounters, and currents of a city tangible.
