You could have done it for free and easier if you used Oracle Cloud’s free tier and netboot.xyz

I tried to use them for my first Lemmy instance. One day I’m just banned and there is absolutely no way to recover.
They reclaim unused computes and this can be based on % utilization so just keeping it on 24/7 isn’t enough. Something to be aware of if you jump for the better computes. You can convert to pay-as-you go to prevent them from reclaiming the compute. Under PAYG you still get the always-free resources but if you pay for any overages so the devil is in the details.
And even if you do everything right then yeah they will just randomly straight up disappear your instance which includes any oracle backups.
So if you use them my best advice is absolutely use 3-2-1 backup strategy and enjoy the free resources while they last
