Had the stupidest idea.
Something like Helldivers where over the top patriotism and indoctrination are important to the plot and tone in a very tongue in cheek way. Have a device where you are given very very very little feedback, and have to hit a button with just the right timing, and the instructions helpfully tell you to sing the first verse of the national anthem and hit the button at the last word.
I was thinking about how a lot of things in this game involve an unnecessary level of physical actions by humanoids, like running around grabbing and plugging things in by hand, and it got me thinking of Earth Ship & Star Song by Ethan I. Shedley (pen name of software engineer Boris Beizer), where general human culture (after an initial horrific bottleneck) was redesigned to require human action in most tasks in order to make humans not mere slaves to the whims of expert systems.
So they'd have these songs that they use to time their tasks, such as the Reentry Song, which you'd sing to know when and how to hit the engines, when and how to pull up, etc.; or the song used to memorize the black hole generator's operation that was full of dirty innuendos.
And I was like, you could also do that with stupid shit like the national anthem in a setting with just plain bad technology, and that'd be funny as hell.
