As municipal governments across British Columbia grapple with next year’s budgets and potential property tax hikes to maintain service levels, there are hundreds of organizations that aren’t even getting a property tax bill.

@pennydaflos Making it worse is that property taxes are often totally insufficient for suburbs and high for urban areas - leading to urban subsidies for suburban lifestyles.

Taxes generated per acre of land are dramatically increased with density, and the cost of providing municipal services to low-density suburbia go way up.

Car-dependent suburbia is *expensive* and property taxes should reflect that to a greater degree.
