@john haha, in one of the peak Hipster hype-cycles when i was at ScraperWiki we, mostly in jest, speculated about doing a job-running service from punched card: Instagram posts of punched cards with the appropriate tag would get optically scanned and run.

The EBCDIC encoding is pretty simple: it's one punch for a number, two for a letter. You could probably guess it, but i'm sure there are webpages documenting it.

@john there seems very little on that top card, is it a continuation from another one?

Last time I read (or wrote) any Fortran was in 1993 though... 🤣

@amcewen @john As a kid, sometime mid 80s I guess, we once earned a few quid for our scout troop by emptying an office full of punch cards down near the docks. If I recall correctly, they were the records of every car imported into the UK, and we completely filled the back of a luton box van with them.
