Yep! “First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin”.

The US has been “soft influencing” European politics for deeeeeeeeeeeecades (just like the Russians!). We are caught between a rock and a hard place. We need to get our shit together because we got monsters on two fronts trying to come at us.

monsters on two fronts

Let’s not forget China (unless you meant that literally, then we have 2 major monsters on the eastern front)

It’s more like a strong-arm coup. Jan 6 wasn’t a soft coup and renaming the Department of Defense, the Department of War, doesn’t sound soft either.
For now the orange pedo/felon is using threats and economic warfare in the form of tariffs.
Trump bombed Iran and Yemen. That is most certainly not very soft.
Russia could buy Hungary and Slovakia. Imagine what the US can buy. Before putting all eggs into the EU basket, can we be sure that the EU is above US influence?

Before putting all eggs into the EU basket, can we be sure that the EU is above US influence?

Yea, but what other basket is there for us?

Do we need a basket? We could let the eggs hatch and deal with the chicks.

We could also make sure that the EU is independent.

Or we accept the American influence and deal with it openly so that we get something in return.

This is the risk I see when people say we should increase our (Canada’s) reliance on the EU. Yes we should increase cooperation but as things stand, the US is EU’s future and we know all about the US present. As the author says, the EU has to start faithfully addressing people’s material concerns (as should we), but that’s not happening under the current neoliberal regimes. I don’t expect significant shift in direction until that’s defeated.

Oh shit, its MEGA. Make Europe Great Again

Funny how other countries are adopting his politics. I guess the proof is in the pudding. Might as well use what has already been proven successful.
