Sysadmin hive mind: are there any Unix/firewall/etc security related software that are worth paying for (apart from Tailscale)? The kind of thing that you'd look forward to your work acquiring, instead of dreading it.

(Assume that MFA is covered.)

@cks is non-data data? I struggle to come up with ANY addition to $DAYJOB that would both excite me and be worth paying for. 😕
@cks 1Password. Aside from password management, the corporate version is also handy for ad-hoc shared secrets
@cks
Puppet. It is configuration management, but most security is really just basic sysadmin. Puppet makes sysadmin easier.
Support for FreeIPA, aka a pair of RedHat licenses. Managing user accounts is terrible. With a trust between IPA and the corporate Active Directory someone else does this drudge work.
@cks No. Adding "security products" always makes you less secure not more. If you don't have the knowledge to remove vectors of vulnerability rather than adding them, pay someone to consult on how to do that rather than trying to buy a product.
