@SmudgeTheInsultCat The Australian figure isn't right. It's not a large figure but it certainly isn't zero. Not everything is covered by Medicare or the PBS.

I was going to say there are a few corner cases in Japan as well, especially with very expensive cancer treatments that are only reimbursed later.

@jannem @skribe @SmudgeTheInsultCat According to estimates there are 60.000 people without health insurance in Germany. I reckon at least a 1 digit percentage of those may be affected.

As for the rest, they might not get the required treatment when in need, so that isn't a good thing either.

TL:DR: Those numbers are an inadmissible oversimplification.

@SmudgeTheInsultCat welll… i am reliably informed that the most common reason Australians access their superannuation (retirement funds) early is for major dental work - its not funded under the government Medicare scheme. Not quite medical bankruptcy, but a sign of not good things
