@Dracula115 Thaaat's interesting.

I think it's because the server I'm quoting appears to have been suspended from Mastodon Social, but you imagine the placeholder would say something about that instead of just pending.

You can “Open original page” if you want to see it

@lety @Dracula115 This week I am starting a replacement for the Mastodon client app/website that is still functionally a Mastodon app, but will be built around the idea of fully open federation using methods other than bans and fedi-blocking to handle censorship, because this is something I am honestly sick and tired of.
@Dracula115 @lety We all hear people say "Reach out to your admins" & all of those other things to block/approve content, but they are all volunteers with other jobs that already have a lot on their plates. Additionally, because of the idiotic & lazy nature of blocklists(a substitute for actually coming up with an intelligent solution to the problem / poisoning the minds of a moderation team at great expense), every block / add has cascading effects that often result in unintended consequences.

@lety @Dracula115 This has turned into a thread...whoops.

There've apparently been efforts to try & address this using Mastodon's existing tools, / by extending Mastodon, from what I've been told, but everything I have heard about doesn't address the fact that the Mastodon client & federated network don't've the structural underpinnings to support these efforts effectively, so the only thing, I think, is to build something independent of the network that distributes power to the people (3/ )

@Dracula115 @lety ...allowing moderation to become a grassroots, community focused thing that is independent of any particular instance and share the effort of moderation across the entire community. @apps has indicated that they hope to solve the same problem by giving every user their own self-contained instance with their app/account, but that also means the individual assigned the weeknesses & burdens of being an instance admin with regard to block/ban&federate discussions. (4/ )
@apps @lety @Dracula115 Ideally, this will create an environment where a) the app will've a default moderation level(that you can opt out of), b) communities will have organic moderation levels(instance independent w/ the effort distributed), c) Masto-devs can do what they do best, / d) individual users can put in as much, / as little, effort as they like to remain safe while still avoiding being silo'd & protecting their privacy & liberté. (5/5)
@kenjen Sounds fun! Good luck with that!!!
@lety ah cool. Worked
