I grow increasingly fond of Ireland’s political system. They used citizen’s assemblies to assist in the answering of vexing major questions.

Given the obvious failures of the political/pundit/media class in the US, I cling to a hope that citizen’s assemblies would help.

@marick where I live angry populists want to throw out the work of a volunteer committee, democratically elected representatives, and professional designers (road/urban redesign project). So while I agree with you philosophically… in this moment I kind of don’t want to entirely open up the process.

@akahn Yeah, I think the process matters a lot. Which is not a bad thing for you to have brought up.

My pet peeve is that doing a citizen’s council type thing requires *taking time*, and today we don’t have patience for that, so we get nothing but knee-jerk reactions.
