I saw the new ADIF proposal for supporting different encodings… I hope it’s just a bad joke. Judge for yourself: https://groups.io/g/adifdev/message/11494

@ok1mlg

I don't want to dig into that thread too deeply, so I'll just ask: has anyone broached simply discarding the ADIF format and creating a JSON/YAML schema instead?

So many problems are resolved by simply using industry-standard and interoperable formats and the libraries that parse them. Who's advocating for that?

@fossham I apologize for the delay. Your question is valid. In my opinion, it's just that big services and log apps don't want to introduce anything new. There is an alternative: ADX, the XML form of ADIF with UTF-8 support. Yet for reasons unknown to me, everyone keeps insisting on ADI. If one or two major services promoted something new, things would change. What is currently being prepared for ADI is, in my view, the biggest hack I’ve seen in my professional career.
