Trump administration will reduce traffic at 40 airports across the US starting Friday if shutdown continues | CNN - Lemmy.World

The Federal Aviation Administration will reduce flights at dozens of major airports as early as Friday if no shutdown deal is reached, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced at a news conference Wednesday. Ten percent of air traffic at 40 busy airports would be cut, potentially impacting thousands of flights, though the details of how many and which specific airports will be cut was not announced.

Do it you coward.
Bets on whether every one is in a blue state?
Would be hilarious because that’s usually where people need to fly, since that’s where all the money is… Lol
Further enshrining this as the Trump shutdown
They just saw that elections results negatively impacted them due to them pulling crap like not negotiating to reopen the government and yet they double down.
Is there a list of the airports or is this just a random threat

Just look at the Electoral map.

State is Blue? No planes for you!

Assuming he doesn’t chicken out tomorrow:

It doesn’t matter. This is going to fuck up the entire country… and a lot of the world.

Airlines aren’t going to say “Welp, no flights out of DEN so let’s just leave everyone at whatever airport”. It is going to be madness as EVERY flight out of the directly impacted airports are re-routed to the nearest functioning hub (or what counts as a hub). And those airports are going to be pumping out every plane they possibly can to any other hubs they possibly can.

So expect direct flights from DFW to Florida suddenly getting an extra two or three hops to just try to get anyone anywhere.

Well that sounds really efficient. Maybe this will convince people to vote despite not liking the options
Well, let’s hope so.
Jesus Christ, you people shoehorn your terrible logic into everything. The way you get giddy when terrible things happen is highly related to why your shitty candidate lost.
Do you have the ability to vote in the US Presidential election?

The times I’ve been caught in an airport brouhaha, you know what happened? They called out the National Guard.

Maybe that’s the end game here?

Lose healthcare if they get their way or death by airplane? I choose shutdown.
“This is what happens when you don’t pay your taxes”
Other way around here… no taxation without representation. If they’ve shut everything down, they’re not representing their constituents, so there should be no tariffs/taxation until they come to an agreement.
I wonder how those Airline Companies, you know the one's who make so much money from flying airplanes, in and out of airports, feel about these Anti-Trans...portation measures?
You will never escape
Yeah this is the kind of shit that worries me. Lockdown.

Where's the list?

No, not the list of airports affected. The other list. We haven't forgotten, Donald.

For clarification do you mean the pedo-island list?
The one that Trump is on? Yes.

Well, if they’re cutting flights to reduce the burden on ATC, I’d have to assume they’re cutting private flights first.

It only makes sense.

Private flights can fly into smaller airports with no ATC. How much traffic do they make up at larger airports?
Bet ya $100 no private jet is grounded.
Oh thank god that means sports won’t be impacted.
Essential workers are still expected to show up to work even if it puts them at higher risk. Athletes flying without ATC, grocery store cashiers during covid, and republican Speaker of the House while everybody is pushing to reveal that the pedophile republican president is on the pedophile list that the Speaker is keeping hidden.

That reminds me, I need to call my Senators. I have one from each party. I tell the (R) how much the shutdown is hurting me and my entire extended family and tell them I want them to end the shutdown even if it means giving the Democrats everything they want. Then I call the (D) and tell them that I know they're under pressure to end the shutdown but me and my entire extended family have talked it over and we really really need them to stand firm about Medicaid money and access, ACA premiums, food stamps access, etc.

It's a fun game I've been playing every week, and I encourage y'all to join in!

I like the cut of your jib!
And of course I have to fly across the country next week for business. Perfect timing. Oh well. This is the pain the country needs to feel—the consequence of supporting Trump. I’m off to have the week someone else voted for.
Thanksgiving traffic gonna be fun
No way it’s gonna last till then. We’re far enough in, things are starting to get real, and one side’s gonna cave
It’s only two more weeks. We’re in day 36
Three more weeks.
We really shouldn’t be partaking in travel this holiday season anyway to go along with not buying crap movement.
Hilarious. The republicans are going to reduce CO2 emissions to own the libs. Imagine how they would react if dems wanted to pass a bill to limit airline flights to reduce emissions. lol.
making america so great, aren’t ya, rich pricks and their hillbilly legion?
An interesting approach to a crackdown on emissions

Not a lot of people realize just how polluting airplanes are. The government basically is about to affect the weather locally this winter.

This winter in the PNW is supposed to be more rainy. Its already showing signs of that. So I wonder if removing a 1/4 of the most polluting vehicles will change things. Although according to the news people are not just gonna stay home. So this could swing from train travel to massive car gridlock.

I’m gonna sit here and watch the rat race.
