Hey hey I've got a question about an audio effect I wanna do that I've seen in a few places, most recently this video (timestamped)

The game in the example is really cool to BTW "Grim Was The Acre"

Basically I wanna learn what kinds of effects I need to apply (ideally with Audacity or some software I can get my hands on easily) that will produce a similar effect. "Grim Was The Acre" kinda landed a lot of stylistic elements that I already wanted to add into my game JKTD.

As far as I can tell, there's a reduction in sample rate and distortion but beyond that I'm at a loss to match the effect. Any advice helps!~
They made this game in 4 DAYS?

@queenofsquiggles bit crusher would guess around 9k hz sample rate

@queenofsquiggles Sounds like a bit crusher to me. I couldn't find any built-in effect for it in Audacity 3.7.

I've found a couple of bitcrushers on AirWindows (FOSS, diverse audio plugins maintained by one person) that might fit what you're looking for to replicate that effect. I have not tested them but the maintainer puts a demonstration of each plugin on their page.
