The “Monument of Homecomers” (PoW memorial), #Friedland, Germany.

The entire place leaves a foul taste, as it mourns only the German victims of WW2, including civilians but especially focusing on Wehrmacht soldiers who died in action or were captured and sent to PoW camps.

No mention of the millions killed by the Wehrmacht. No mention either of six million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti people, disabled persons, and political prisoners murdered in German death camps.

Ugh.

Another memorial in #Friedland. It shows a Wehrmacht soldier leaving a Soviet PoW camp, raising his hand towards freedom. The image is in line with most German post-war history books, depicting Wehrmacht soldiers not as aggessors who invaded half of Europe but as victims.
