Walked into a Panera Bread restaurant today with my people. While navigating to the counter, I found a table with an iPad for ordering. Below the device was a sign in Braille, that I came upon completely by accident! It said: "Welcome! To launch VoiceOver, (headphones at register), insert headphones into jack and double-tap screen with 3 fingers". There's not enough Braille signage in the world, so this one was certainly, a "welcome" discovery!
@walkside3 That's extremely impressive and considerate of them to do that. I wonder how many of their restaurants offer this level of accessibility?
@walkside3 I learned for the first time that McDonalds has a screenreader on the kiosk from the person who works for McDonalds accessibility and implemented it. I still haven't tried it though 😳
@prism Sorry to slightly dampen any excitement, but I think McDonald's just use JAWS for Kiosks. @walkside3
@jscholes @walkside3 That makes sense. Have you used it?
@jscholes @prism @walkside3 that's what they demo'ed at CSUN
@prism @walkside3 Oh, what? I have to try this.
@jonathan859 @prism I haven't tried JAWS for Kiosk or the Voiceover implementation at Panera, but to have a Braille sign informing people of the acccessibility's presence on a tablet is a good start!
@walkside3 @jonathan859 Agreed! I wouldn't even think to try a kiosk unless I had reason to believe it would work, braille signage accomplishes that quite well.
@walkside3 Wha wha what? That's so coool!!!
@walkside3 That seems like a non-standard gesture for launching VoiceOver. Did it work?
@BTyson I had that same thought, re: it being an atypical way to invoke VO. Unfortunately, I didn't try it this time, but now have plenty of incentive to return to the location, (headphones in hand, and not buried in my bag), and give it a spin.
@walkside3 Yep, seen that before. I could never get it to work, though. Did you, though, I wonder?
@ChrisDuffley I didn't try at this location, but next time, (with headphones in hand, and not buried in my bag), I will certainly give it a spin.
@walkside3 Oh wow! ... Now we wanna go look. o.o
@walkside3 Now that's awesome!
@walkside3 It's also nice it was an iPad since much of the blind population is familiar with iOS already.
