when you have finished you can tell me if it has a happy end and if i would have to sleep with lights on if i ever watched it. i saw a yt video title that it is a masterpiece wasted on bl but i didn't watch it.
@babblingaboutstuff I can't comment on the ending yet but I feel like the curse is really scary and should keep me up, but for some reason it doesn't. I don't know if it's because I have gradually been exposed to frightening media and I'm getting used to it or what. I might not be the best person to ask.
To me, the curse is more tragic and sad than scary. And even though I'm usually very easily scared by depictions of ghosts in Asian media, I didn't find the ones here particularly frightening, with the exception of a few parts in episode 9. What episode are you on?
@carm_kuryakin probably finishing Khemjira 8 tonight unless I pass out
I couldn't even finish 609 bedtime story, but maybe I really have changed. I might go check it out again later.
Also my friend said the Keng is "ok" looking 👿 but we agreed that Ticha is really pretty (since I'm not blind but he is, apparently!)
Ahhhh, episode 8 is almost two hours long
I haven't seen 609. Just looked it up and it seems interesting, I added it to my ptw, as if I hadn't so much already on it. But I get it, sometimes one just isn't in the mood to watch certain things, even if they sound good 🤷🏽♂️
And your friend thinking Keng is just "ok" is perfect, así no lo mira tanto y no lo gasta. Last night I finally took the time to watch The Paradise of Thorns and I thought with different make up and looking less dashing, Keng wouldn't make me gasp, but I was mistaken... I like that man A LOT.
And yeah, Ticha is really pretty too. Such a gorgeous smile
@carm_kuryakin I'm not even half way through Khemjira episode 8. 😅
I got to see Paradise of Thorns in the theater, but unfortunately (?) I had watched Viet and Nam earlier that same day, which had an outsized effect on me.
Paradise of Thorns probably didn't get a fair viewing by me, because I was still lost at sea inside Viet and Nam.
Oh, no lol
Not the "masterpiece wasted on BL"
I heard about comments like that being made and as far as I can tell, it was because so many people in Thailand who don't even watch BL started watching it and... Well... Like, can it not be good just because it has pretty boys kissing? We all know how that sounds 🙃
I can tell you if it has a happy ending if you want, and how scary it is. I think it depends on how affected you are by certain visuals. I'm usually very affected by how ghosts are portrayed in Asian media, so I thought it would be scarier, but it really wasn't for me. There was just one episode (10) that I thought was properly creepy. I suppose you can count episodes 11 and 12 too, but, for me, the resolution of the conflict overpowered that aspect, but again, it depends on how much you're affected by that kind of imagery
yes would be interested to know.
i always say i dont watch/like horror and then catch myself watching stuff that is classified as such. similarly with sad/tragic stories but i think there i am more on my toes and really avoid them in generell. to kai you said you thought it more sad and tragic than creepy. so it would depend how sad/tragic it is and if there is a happy ending anyway.
i saw your khemjira toot so i know you have info and opinions 😅
Untagging the others in case they haven't watched it and want to be spoiler free.
But it does have a happy ending.
The curse and the ghosts that haunt the protagonist can be scary, though how scary depends on your tolerance for horror. I suspect the other elements of the plot (and Keng 😅🙈) really helped me with that because I was more concerned trying to read about the setting (the story happens in Isan), the beliefs (not just Buddhism, but Tai folk religion) and the relationships between the characters.
What I found most affecting was the origin of the curse and its effects, it's genuinely sad and tragic. But the resolution was very satisfying.
And yes... I have a lot of opinions 😅
thank you very much 😃 !
hugs!
Nooo, I'm not watching it. Honestly, after finishing Khemjira, I've been a little obsessed and thinking a lot about the different themes it touches on (and how beautiful is Keng, omg... He's very pretty). I even want to write a fic... 😅
