Launching http://xodus.online ! Building a movement away from toxic social media, towards alternative social media (open social web) - the why, the where-to and the how! Please support our launch ! https://xodus.online/2025/10/30/launching-xodus-online/ #MastodonMigration
Thanks for the engagement! Have edited the section of the website on microblogging to include a comparison between Mastodon and Bluesky https://xodus.online/where-to/#microblogging - would be good to get further input and feedback on that page. To get more closely involved in xodus.online please email [email protected] ! Also please follow this account on Mastodon if you haven't already.
Where to?

where to? Here you can read about what alternative social media there are, how to join Fediverse platforms, and for microblogging specifically, deciding on Mastodon, Bluesk…

Xodus
@xodus_online cool initiative! Thanks for being constructive with the feedback!
@xodus_online
Bluesky ? 🀨
@Zekovski yeah I know - the site does discuss the Bluesky vs Fediverse issues.... happy to discuss more.....

@xodus_online

bluesky is now hosting accounts for White House, Homeland Security / ICE, Department of War, JD Vance etc which are posting fascist propaganda [1] this combined with numerous other failures like banning pro palestine accounts [2] banning trans activists for criticising jk rowling [3] and complying with turkish state censorship requests [4] leads me to finally recommend de-federation from all bluesky bridges

mastodon is non-profit bluesky is for profit and funded by billionaire ex twitter owner jack dorsey, so they will find some way to exploit their users for profit.

@ambiguous_yelp definitely fair points. I guess the one thing that sets Bluesky apart from the toxic platforms is that it does allow for algorithmic choice rather than black box algorithms controlled by platform owners, however we do share your concerns on Bluesky and definitely prefer the Fediverse ! If you're interested in improving the text in the Mastodon vs Bluesky section of the website do get in touch! [email protected]
@xodus_online how does this differ from @helloQuitX? What do you plan to do differently and why did you think a new account and website was needed rather than a collaboration with them?
@xodus_online to clarify, I see a clear difference in the name, that does not focus on X but on all platforms, but the strong focus on microblogging and the absence of Facebook alternatives like Friendica or Hubzilla in the proposed platforms makes me wonder whether that's actually the plan...
@silmathoron @helloQuitX Hi this was done in close collaboration with HelloQuitX (more on the about page)
@xodus_online
IMHO Bluesky (the butterfly) is on the wrong side. It's just remade and rebranded Twitter by Jack Dorsey. It's still not decentralized and not federated. (No, I don't consider the bridge stuff as being federated)
@prettyhuman @xodus_online Partly agree and partly think it is too early to tell. What happens to Blacksky, Northsky, and some smaller efforts along those lines is the main thing to watch, seems to me.
@xodus_online jajsjaja el fantasmita malvado
@xodus_online I really don't understand why BlueSky shouldn't be promoted. I deleted my account yesterday because I don't agree with Bluesky providing a platform for the US government.
@dontobi Definitely hear the concerns about Bluesky having overly centralised control over who has account and who doesn't, and over moderation, rather than doing this in a decentralised way as in the Fediverse. However Bluesky does have algorithmic choice which allows more transparency and choice about what content is amplified or not. We need to include more discussion about this on the website.
@xodus_online putting bluesky on the list? did you know they blocked several accounts from my country because the government in power here requested them to?
@ged hearing the concerns about Bluesky... in particular moderation/account block decisions being made centrally rather than decentralised as in Fediverse.
@xodus_online yeah well thats the whole idea about the fediverse : ) if i were you id first get the facts and priorities in order before spreading word about anything... if i didnt know better, id say youre trying to promote bluesky for something its not .
i hope youre better than that...
@xodus_online need a hand someday to translate in other languages?
@Natouille Yes please! Please email us on [email protected] !
@xodus_online there’s also @incise now… still in early beta
@xodus_online isn't bluesky a toxic social media platform too?

@hiphopheaven @xodus_online Yes, what is your opinion on things like mentioned in this post? https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/113896029909649321

There's nothing stopping Bluesky from becoming just as toxic a platform as the other commercial social media, if it's not there already.

Attached: 1 image I've had a lot of people ask how BlueSky compares to Mastodon and the Fediverse. I've tried to make the answer as simple and easy to understand as possible: πŸ¦‹ BlueSky is designed to give corporations and wealthy people full control of the network. All of its traffic has to flow through expensive-to-run corporate relays. :Fediverse: The Fediverse is designed to give ordinary people control of the network. All of its traffic flows directly from one cheap-to-run server to another. #FediTips

@bammerlaan @hiphopheaven @xodus_online while Bluesky hasn't decentralized moderation, it does give algorithmic choice and openness unlike the other toxic platforms.... I am on the fence on it. It would be good to build out the content discussing the pros and cons of Bluesky
@ElaineActivism @bammerlaan @xodus_online what about censorship . Content get nuked regardless of which algo you choose. People fight and insult each others regardless of the algos, it ia also full of genocide supporter. Yocan say all gazan deserve to die because of hamas and the comment do not get removed but if you say Rest in piss kirk it get removed

@hiphopheaven Well, noβ€”that's the point. If you host your own Fediverse instance, no-one can "nuke" your content. Other instances could de-federate you, I suppose, but you're the only admin of your own instance, so whatever you post there cannot be censored.

("Rest in piss, Kirk" is also way less likely to be censored on the Fediverse than on Bluesky, I'd wager.)

@bammerlaan defederation exists. Average users will not create an instance juat to avoid censorship
@hiphopheaven What would you think would solve your issue?

@xodus_online @liaizon i could be wrong but i understand free our feeds is an independent org and not affiliated with bluesky.

might also want to contrast at protocol with activity pub regarding something like "social app development layer" versus "open protocol for social networking"

@rosano @xodus_online yeah the paragraph explaining bluesky is pretty weak, I agree, this seems to be an initiative thats open to contributions, though I don't see how exactly other then sending an email which feels heavy
@liaizon @rosano yes feedback welcome - you might have to explain your feedback above a little more, email [email protected]
