Having a rest day and trying to catch up on posts here, I’ve been dipping in and out when I can. We’ve just been away for one night to the coast and it’s amazing how such a short time can make such a difference! We enjoyed the chilly fresh air and had fish and chips which is essential! Resting today then tomorrow I’m going to visit a sculptor’s studio - he’s kindly invited me to touch some of his artwork and I’m so intrigued to see if I can identify the objects! I think he does all kinds of unusual sculptures and he’s looking forward to seeing what I make of them. Fingers crossed it goes well and I don’t unknowingly offend him, eek!
What a wonderful experience! The artist studio was suitably shabby - no heating or loo and some ancient Victorian stairs for me to stumble up in the rain. I got to feel all kinds of ceramic artwork, mostly very abstract and reminiscent of coral or under water creatures. There were pieces that were glazed and others with plain clay and some with a mixture of both so lots of tactile elements and a variety of forms. It was a pleasure to chat to him about how he makes the artwork and what inspires him. I’ve never come across so much art that I can feel and take in for as long as I like. He was very interested in my response to the work and which textures and shapes most appealed to me
