I live in the Netherlands and I want to try and talk to people as far away as possible.

Do I want the 915Mhz, 868Mhz, or 433Mhz?

I think I want the external antenna regardless, because it's fun.

Do I need a HAM license for this, or am I good to just go have fun?

Edit: Ty! Looks like 868Mhz is what I want and I don't need a HAM license, so that's great! I just need to figure out what antenna to buy now 🕺

As a good and cheap antenna you may buy a gizont from aliexpress or an eightwood type 6 from Amazon.. there are other more expensive... try first then you will decide to go on or slow down
