New #outdoor gear dilemma. I need to buy new #hiking boots.

Should I buy something premium, handmade, repairable, locally made, which, if I happen to get the fit right, might outlive me (many times repairable). Costs 500 EUR or upwards.

Something mid-range, might be repairable once or twice, can last 10-15 years. Half the price.

Decathlon for a third of the half price and a new shoe every 3-5 years.

Repairs are quite pricey, 100 EUR or up.

@mrc I bought Meindl Boots 15 years ago and use them to this day. Had to replace the soles once. I was just done studying so the price stung me but I didn't need to buy hiking shoes since.

@janmon Nice, how much did Meindl charge for resoling?

I asked a local Hanwag dealer, and resoling a 300 EUR boot costs 150 EUR :( It’s through the shop though, they probably add their markup.

@mrc @janmon Had two pairs of Meindl Borneo resoled this year (sole + stoneguard + internal sole and shoelace) : 180€ each. Not cheap but quality work.
