This is still just a rumor, but I share @scott's reaction: Noooooooo https://techcrunch.com/2025/10/26/ads-might-be-coming-to-apple-maps-next-year/ I really wish Apple would stop with the changes that make me sad and frustrated. I don't want AI and I don't want ads in my apps. I *like* Apple Maps for navigation and more; I sure hope they don't make it worse. #Apple (Please no suggestions that I move to Linux.)

On a similar note: which generation of Pixel should I be looking at to get reasonable performance from @GrapheneOS?

I see it seems to be compatible all the way back to the 7, which I can pick up for a pretty reasonable price, but will I hate it?

@crispius Our recommendations are available at https://grapheneos.org/faq#recommended-devices.

Pixel 8a is the best budget device option. 8th gen Pixels brought major hardware security feature improvements which are much more heavily used by GrapheneOS than the stock OS. 8th gen also increased the guaranteed support time from 5 years to 7 years from launch. A Pixel 8a is more than a year newer than a Pixel 7 too. 8th gen performance is also better all around.

Strongly recommend 8th/9th gen. 10th will come soon.

@GrapheneOS @crispius
I am wondering will the New Graphene OS house-made phone will come along with a SD-Card Slot?
@edcheong @crispius It's not a phone designed by GrapheneOS or specifically made for GrapheneOS. It's going to be a regular flagship phone from a major Android OEM which is going to have significantly improved updates and security features to meet our requirements. It's possible for there to be multiple devices instead of only one, but we're going to focus on starting for one. Further improvements for GrapheneOS are something to consider for future generations once market viability is proven.
@GrapheneOS @edcheong @crispius Will the os be signed by the same verified boot keys the OEM uses for the pre installed os?
