@pluralistic , we spoke Saturday about whether the French translation is closer to 'merde' or to 'chier' (pardon).

The way I see it, enshittification is more of a dark alchemy, so it has little to do with the act, and everything to do with the result.

Therefore

➡️ Emmerdification

But soft! French also has

➡️ Démerder

which is to be resourceful!
So there is hope yet!

(en français ci-dessous)

@DenOfEarth @pluralistic and we rapidly can mix them (only the words, please !) and get a nice way out of enshitification :

Démerdification !

@DenOfEarth @pluralistic

Merdification sera plus simple comme traduction.

@DenOfEarth @pluralistic @mamot.fr « emmerdification » feels drawn from « emmerder » (annoy/bother) and too soft indeed.

I prefer @ploum ’s coinage : « merdification ». We instantly understand that it means turning things into shit.

« chiassification » would work too I guess, but the result would probably be too liquid for a 💩 emoji.
