@georgetakei The argument that will be offered (and has been) is that the money for the ballroom is private money, not public. Which is.. well, sort of true, I guess.

Of course, that same money could go to much more worthwhile things.

But the real scandal is that that money IS essentially public money, at least by the moral argument that it's at least in part a product of tax cuts for the rich.

@PeachMcD Undoubtedly. The point is, the argument can be made -- already has been, in fact, and will again -- that 'private' money is paying for this, not public. That is, "We're not spending taxpayer money on this, it's all privately funded." Which is TECHNICALLY true, if you don't consider WHY those rich jerks can afford to donate that money.
