i feel like they're mostly doing it to attract people who are somewhere between believing and not believing them, those who are still on thin ice
honestly the most devastating thing here is the fact that a looooot of elderly and middle-aged folks in Russia genuinely believe that the government can do no wrong, like??? when i said that the "everything messenger" is in fact a spyware, they deadass responded with "well but it's OUR COUNTRY spying on us!!! THAT was America, who knows what they were doing with our data???"
