@daringfireball I suspect a lot of this “design” is driven by the physical characteristics of springs rather than design choice.

@daringfireball @gruber Would be important to add that the design here follows physics: The indicator tracks mainspring tension, not remaining runtime. Since the spring delivers more torque when fully wound and gradually weakens, the display reflects this exponential energy decay rather than proportional time remaining.

So yeah, the design drives the users’ behaviour, but here this is a side effect of physical constraints.
