I'm only just getting my feet wet after vacay, but I've gathered that there's a big Amazon #cloutage today? IDK if that's a word, but if not it is now :) Is it DNS? I haven't caught up yet.
@briankrebs Yes, it was DNS; something got pushed at midnight is what I'm hearing. A few appropriate #ConspiracyTheories cycled on #TikTok ("botched test of the #InternetKillSwitch ") based on the timing. And #cloutage is now definitely a word.

As always, El Reg nails it: https://www.theregister.com/2025/10/20/aws_outage_amazon_brain_drain_corey_quinn/?td=keepreading

| When … tribal knowledge departs, you're left having to reinvent an awful lot of in-house expertise that didn't want to participate in your RTO games, or play Layoff Roulette yet again this cycle. This doesn't impact your service reliability — until one day it very much does, in spectacular fashion. I suspect that day is today.

Amazon brain drain finally sent AWS down the spout

column: When your best engineers log off for good, don’t be surprised when the cloud forgets how DNS works

@Kynx @briankrebs I can't help but wonder if some of these departed senior engineers couldn't put together a competing service, thus putting the knowledge back into a production environment and, more importantly, diversifying the pool. Alas, that would require somebody who a) has extreme amounts of money and b) has avoided the brainrot that seems to inevitably accompany those extreme sums - enough to get out of the way and allow their engineers to build and maintain something decent.

I'd also like a Ferrari. That'd be nice.
